The Epilogue: The last night I spent with them was about two weeks ago. My roommate and I played and wrestled with them, had them run all over our apartment, engage in a photo-shoot, and then the two of them pretty much slept like babies on us.
T&T went in for surgery (spay and neuter) at APA the next day — it’s the last time I saw them. I was a bit worried about how they’d be after their procedure but later that day I got a very sweet email from the new parents of Thomas and Trixie:
Picked up the kittens from APA today — they are groggy and
disoriented from the anesthesia, but otherwise intact :). [We]
wanted to thank you for being such a good foster parent to them — we
hope to continue the good work! On that note, if you ever want to
stop by and hang out with the kittens, we’d love to have you. I’m sure both
of the kittens would love to see you as well.
Yay for happy endings =) -
Well, it looks like it’s official. Thomas (yeah I’ve pretty much transitioned out of calling him Thimble) and Trixie have met their new family and will be leaving my care at the end of the week! In the last few days, I received a lot of emails about the cats and it’s awesome to see so many people respond to the pair.
They go in for surgery on Friday to be spayed and neutered, after which point they’ll be picked up by their new owners. A lot of people have asked me whether I’m going to be sad when they’re gone — and truthfully, I’ll miss them a ton. But! I’m actually more excited for them than anything, and I think they’re going to be extremely happy with their new family.
It’s been a lot of fun watching them grow the last few weeks. I’ve seen them go from being scared of jumping down from a couch to literally Spider-Manning up my leg whenever they feel like it — and then leaping off it. In the next two days, if I ever feel like grabbing a video of it instead of discouraging that behavior, I’ll be sure to post it.
Anyways, currently celebrating T&T’s new forever home :)

3 Weeks In
When I picked up the kittens almost three weeks ago, I had to buy a postage scale from Office Depot. In order to determine how much food to give them, I needed to weigh the kittens and see if they’re gaining pounds or losing or staying the same (and then feed them accordingly). It’s cute because when they’re small, you just stick them in a big tupperware container or tub of Country Crock and collect data.
Honestly, I could only weigh them the first week because every time after that, they wouldn’t stay put. They were getting bigger though!
And in other exciting news, a potential adopter for Thomas and Trixie has contacted me! Maybe they’ll be finding a new forever home soon

Onion Hat!!

I discovered something very bizarre last night. The kittens are
probablyalcoholics. Not only that, but they’re snobby about what type of drink they want to stick their face into. Between their choices of a New Belgium Somersault, a home-brewed IPA, or Leinenkugel Honey Weiss — they were all aboard the wheat beer. It was seriously a magnetic force pulling one to the other; I can’t even explain it.
So I filmed it — naturally. Btw, if you thought Trixie was the cute, shy one up until now… she’s hardcore fiending for some Lienenkugel.
Also, they’re definitely growing.

Update: as of a few days ago, the kittens have gone from eating gruel ( a mixture of wet catfood and water) to enjoying kibble pretty much 100%. The reason they needed gruel was mostly due to it being their main form of hydration — they seriously didn’t know what the concept of water was. But now they do :) and are all about the slurping of H2O and munching of crunchy dry food.
I took them to get their de-wormer shots last week as well so now they’re completely caught up on any medication they need! I feel like they’re getting bigger but it’s a bit hard to tell. Definitely much more into playing than they were a week ago so I’ll probably be uploading a video or two soon.
They’ve also seemed to discover how useful their claws are — and they’re really utilizing them… for pretty much everything. When they wrestle together or with me though they seem to know not to use the full extent of their little paw-knives. But Trixie’s totally a climber. From the carpet to the top of my leg in about 2 seconds. She’s got some moves.
Oh! And as for the kitty litter situation. They’re much much better about it! As far as I can tell, there isn’t any sort of involuntary stomping around in there — and that makes me happy.

Trixie
Age: 5 weeks
Weight: 267 g
Just like her brother, Trixie’s a highly energetic and curious one. However, when it comes to exploring uncharted territory or leaping off ironing boards, Trixie is a bit more cautious than Thomas. She may seem quiet and shy, but this kitten can be surprisingly vocal when she wants to be held. Expect heavy purring. But just because she’s a careful creature doesn’t mean she’s boring — Trixie is usually the one to instigate a wrestling match with Thomas despite weighing less.Even though she has an affinity for standard shoelaces (LOVES them intensely), Trixie’s compelled and fascinated by most objects introduced to her to. The laser pointer is a hot item in their lives at this point. When playtime’s over, you can expect Trixie to scamper towards your lap and make herself comfortable. It doesn’t take long for her to fall into deep sleep and takes a few moments for her brother to see her passed out comfortably, get jealous, and join the slumber party himself.
She once spent 30 minutes quietly perched on my shoulder watching me cook pasta sauce over the stove. (I was very careful not to let her fall in)

She (along with her brother) will be on the adoption list very soon via Austin Pets Alive.

Thomas a.k.a. Thimble:
Age: 5 weeks
Weight: 273 grams
An adventurous spirit, this little brown tabby is a fantastic explorer. Don’t let his seemingly carefree behavior fool you; deep down, Thomas is a big softy that just wants to be cuddled. Very social by nature, Thomas will let you know when he wants some affection and he isn’t afraid to give any back (so much purring!)Some of his favorite things include leaping, pouncing, nuzzling, munching on kibble, and wrestling with his sister, Trixie. He’s a kitten that takes pride in simple pleasures like boxes and plastic bags. Because of his young age, he often experiences bursts of energy. Take advantage of this playtime because he might wear himself out and need a nap fairly quickly! Thomas prefers to cozy himself up next to people or his sister when he needs to rest; and I can attest that Trixie and he are expert cuddlers with one another.
If you’d like to know more about Thomas you can e-mail: MeowHearThis@gmail.com
He is not up for adoption quite yet but he’s getting on the list in a week! If you’d like to adopt Thomas, please check out www.austinpetsalive.org
